Mark Becker is a friend of mine and fellow Trike Pilot from South Africa. Recently he and his two pals Tjeerd Beens and Mark Wegener decided to team up for an adventure they aptly named "Flying The Fish." This is the area near Fish River Canyon, a desolate but beautiful section of South Africa where the colors and terrain are like nowhere else in the world.

The DVD project is the baby of Mark B., who has always had a love of flying and filmmaking. He and I have shared tips over the last couple of years so I was very pleased to see how well this project turned-out. It begins with the boys planning their trip and follows their adventures from both air and ground perspectives. They also spend a fair amount of time during the DVD giving cooking and eating lessons!

The DVD is narrated by Mark B. and it is enjoyable to find that he has quite a campy sense of humor as well as a pleasing narration style and tone. The flying footage was made all the better by the fact that Mark had used multiple camera angles to highlight the terrain as well as the craft and the pilots. The musical soundtrack is likewise very up-beat.

During one segment of the video the boys whip out some very unusual forms of ground transport. Called a "GoPed", they look like a cross between a skateboard, a mini-bike and a Segway. These little machines helped the guys to go from their landing zones to sightsee or to run for supplies whenever the support vehicle was not available.

Overall I enjoyed the DVD mostly because I am so envious of the gorgeous scenery presented and the fact that Mark and the guys had so much fun on this trip! When you live in the Midwest or any other urban area, it is hard to remember that there are such beautiful places to fly and explore, and this DVD really helped to wet my appetite for someday flying over such magical territory.

Kudos to Mark and the gang at Marketing Media for an outstanding product.
